What’s your role at Town & Country Meats and what does a typical day look like?
My role is to keep our vehicles defect-free and on the road, while also ensuring our drivers remain compliant with all relevant legal requirements.
A typical day involves speaking with the mechanic, arranging for vehicles to go in for repairs or scheduled maintenance, and keeping in regular contact with our drivers. I also check that their licences are compliant and that they are working within their permitted driving hours.
I am part of the management team, overseeing the day-to-day running of the company. No two days are the same, as I deal with a wide range of tasks that vary throughout the week. From confirming payroll information and authorising invoices for payment to overseeing credit control, I adapt to whatever is needed to help the business run efficiently.
Known as the “fixer of everything”, I’m always on hand to help any team member, drawing not only on my knowledge of the meat industry as a whole, but also my specific knowledge of the company and how we manage our day-to-day processes.
How did you get into the meat industry and what do you enjoy most about your role?
I started as a trainee butcher at a market butchers at the age of 15. After spending nine years in the butchery role and becoming manager of the store at 24, I was ready for a new challenge. This was when I was approached by our current MD, Gary Walker, to join his team.
What I enjoy most about my role is being on hand to support all team members with whatever is needed to ensure the smooth running of the business.
As a founding member of the company, I have seen our customer base grow from one customer to hundreds, and the business develop from trading out of the back of a shop to operating across multiple sites up and down the country.
My role at Town & Country Meats Group Ltd is something I have grown incredibly proud of, and I intend to continue striving to help the business grow even further.
What’s your favourite part of working as part of the Town & Country team?
Being able to say that I have watched us grow from strength to strength over a 23 year period. Seeing smiling faces and a team that are as passionate about the Business as myself.

Cooking chili con carne :)
Who would play you in a film about your life?

What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?
